Jeypore: Central University of Orissa, Koraput was closed sine die on Thursday following agitation by students seeking fulfillment of 52-point charter of demands.

The authorities of the varsity have asked the students to vacate the campus by 10 am today.

Vice-chancellor of the varsity Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty said, “The students were out of control and there were chances of violence, so we had to declare sine die to maintain discipline on the campus. Students have been asked to vacate the premises by 11 am and notices have been issued in this regard. Police have been asked to take the charge.”

Meanwhile, one platoon police force has been deployed in the university, informed a senior police official.

Earlier in the day, the students had staged dharna in front of the varsity’s administrative block after discussion with the authorities remained inconclusive yesterday. They had also decided to boycott the classes from today.

The demands of students included immediate filling up of teachers’ vacancies, basic facilities in hostels, setting up of more departments and establishment of a medical facility on premises of the Central University.
