Bhubaneswar: Eight persons were detained by Commissionerate Police following a group clash between the residents of Sisupalgarh and Nuagaon villages on the outskirts of the city today.

The clash occurred when some youths of Sisupalgarh damaged shops at Nuagaon village and attacked some villagers over past rivalry. Few police personnel were injured and a police vehicle was ransacked in the scuffle.

People of two villages had clashed earlier in January after some youths of Sisupalgarh had allegedly passed lewd comments on women of Nuagaon.

Earlier on Thursday, five youths of Sisupalgarh had scuffled with some villagers of Nuagaon. Two were detained and thrashed by by Nuagaon villagers while managed to escape.

In a fit of rage, Sisupalgarh residents came together today to take revenge.

Meanwhile, police forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any further untoward incident.
