Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Thursday sought an explanation from chief minister Naveen Patnaik on the allegations made by two senior Biju Janata Dal leaders against the state government.

"Statements made by former state ministers Damodar Rout and Debasis Nayak are serious and have substantiated our allegations. It shows Naveen government stands in the dock," senior BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra told reporters here.

Charges made by the two leaders showed that Naveen government was suffering from five deficiencies, he said adding "it suffers from collapse of governance and lack of democratic functioning, ethics, transparency and honesty."

On sacking of Rout as minister and suspension of Nayak from BJD, Mohapatra said it is the prerogative of the chief minister to drop ministers but since the issues raised by the duo pertain to public domain and state`s interest, Naveen Patnaik owes an explanation to the people.

The two BJD leaders had alleged corruption was all pervasive and governance had collapsed in Orissa, but the Chief Minister was yet to answer the allegations levelled by the duo, the senior BJP leader said.

"When we were making allegation, BJD leaders termed it as politically motivated. Now Naveen should answer questions raised by his own partymen," he said.
