Puri: In a major security breach, three foreign tourists reportedly climbed up a police watchtower of Puri Jagannath temple and captured photographs and videos of the 12th-century temple today.

The video of the incident which went viral on various social media platforms has sparked criticism from all quarters with people flagging concerns over the safety and security of the ancient shrine.

According to reports, the three foreign ladies climbed up the police watchtower located on the west side of Srimandir in full public glare, clicked pictures and shot videos of the interior parts of the Srimandir premises and got down from the tower casually.

A video of the incident shows that there were no cops present at the spot even though it is a mandatory strategic site for police surveillance all round the clock.

It is worthwhile to mention that capturing videos and photographs inside Jagannath temple is strictly restricted for security purposes. The authorities have also banned the entry of cellphones and any other electronic gadgets into the shrine. However, instances of tourists and visitors violating the prohibition had come to fore on numerous occasions in the past.
