Nor'wester rains wreaked havoc in Kalimela area of Malkangiri district on Tuesday. Strong gusty winds accompanied by heavy rains, which battered the region for quite some time, left behind a trail of destruction.

Several people have been affected after their houses sustained intensive damage in the Nor'wester rains. The roof of several houses were either blown away under the influence of strong winds while others suffered damaged after trees fell on them.

Santosh Sana and his family had a close shave after a gigantic tree got uprooted and fell on their home at MPV-77.

Sources said a massive operation has been undertaken by the Odisha Fire Services personnel to clear roads which were blocked in several tree felling incidents in the area.

Nor’wester, a squall synonymous with this time of the year. As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), widespread rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam-Meghalaya, Nagaland,Manipur, Mizoram,Tripura and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next 5 days under the influence of strong southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal to northeastern States and a cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand.
