In these digital times, many people are losing their money due to online cheating schemes and other scams.
Unfortunately, people are often unaware of the dangers lurking on social media, and they tend to trust everyone, inadvertently sharing their digital details with fraudsters, leading to falling victim to these scams.
Realising the sensitivity of the issue, the State Bank of India (SBI) has taken the initiative to raise awareness and promote safe online banking practices.
SBI has shared some simple yet crucial tips that everyone should follow to protect themselves.
- If you receive any links through messages or emails, avoid opening them. Instead, manually visit the official website of the bank. Even with short URLs, refrain from clicking directly, verify and cross-check the site name before proceeding.
- Never reply to or mark as spam any message that asks for your password, PIN, or other vital information. It is important to remember that no legitimate bank will ever ask for your PIN, OTP, username, or other sensitive data through email or messages.
- Be wary of unknown individuals who ask for remote access to your devices using apps like AnyDesk. Avoid sharing your smartphone or PC screen with anyone you do not trust completely.
- Regularly update your computer's operating system to the latest version and ensure you have the latest antivirus and spyware software installed to protect against potential threats.
- Stay away from adult content and suspicious websites that may contain viruses or harmful software. Such sites can expose your system to security risks.
- Always have the latest antivirus and spyware protection installed on your system to detect and prevent potential threats.
- Check your operating system settings to ensure the 'File and Printing Sharing' feature is disabled, minimising the risk of unauthorised access to your files.
- Regularly review your account and transaction history to detect any unauthorised or suspicious transactions promptly.
By following these guidelines from SBI, you can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to online scams and safeguard your financial and personal information while enjoying the benefits of digital banking.
