Bihar man arrested for uploading CoWIN data on Telegram, privacy concerns arise
An arrest in Bihar related to the CoWIN data leak has raised concerns about the security of health information.
The incident brought into focus the importance of data security and strong cybersecurity measures.
An individual from Bihar uploading CoWIN-related data on Telegram without authorisation has raised serious concerns about the security and privacy of confidential health information.
CoWIN, a platform implemented for India's COVID-19 vaccination campaign, has been instrumental in managing and overseeing the vaccination process.
However, the unauthorised access and sharing of data from the platform have become a growing issue.
As per the Delhi Police, the accused managed to access the CoWIN database without permission and acquired sensitive information such as vaccination records and personal details of individuals.
Later, it was alleged that the accused shared this confidential data on Telegram channels, resulting in its wider dissemination.
The authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the accused's actions yet.
Charges have been filed against the accused under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and several other sections of the Indian Penal Code related to data theft, illicit access, and privacy violation.
