Be it breaking the record of Sir Don Bradman's Test score of 334 or playing many impactful knocks for Australia, Warner played the role of the opener with complete perfection.

David Warner and Virender Sehwag

The word 'destructive' will always remain associated with David Warner as the Australian stalwart set to bid adieu to Test Cricket after his farewell test Vs Pakistan in Sydney. With a test career spanning over 11 years, David Warner had some memorable moments as an established test player for Australia.

Be it breaking the record of Sir Don Bradman's Test score of 334 or playing many impactful knocks for Australia, Warner played the role of the opener with complete perfection.

A batsman who is a little similar to him in terms of playing cricket, Virender Sehwag recalled that moment when he pushed Warner to become a test opener for Australia. Sehwag instantly saw that potential in Warner as he was hitting sixes for fun to the bowlers in the IPL 2009 where he played for Delhi Daredevils.

"When David Warner came to play for Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2009, he'd just made his T20I and ODI debuts. But the way he used to bat and hit the ball, I could see he had all the talent and the control you need in a Test batter," Sehwag said.

David Warner decimated bowling attacks as an opener which Sehwag used to do it for India for many years.

He said, 'I am so far away from Test cricket and in Australia it's so difficult to break into the Test team to start with.' I told him, 'You will enjoy it. It's made for you. In Test cricket, you have a power play throughout the day. In T20 cricket the powerplay only lasts for 20 overs.' He started laughing and said, 'Then I'll certainly enjoy it'.

After playing his test debut, Warner messaged Sehwag to tell him how happy he was as he thanked him for the conversion which proved to be a career-changing moment for him.

Warner played only two first-class matches before making his test debut for Australia. In his 5th test, he made his announcement in test cricket by scoring stroke-filled 180 Vs India at WACA Perth in front of the man (Sehwag) who actually told him to make an impact in test cricket for Australia.
