'Some people moved on, but...’: The day when Australia dashed 1.3 billion Indians' ICC World Cup dreams

It just seems like yesterday as on this day in 2023, Australia shattered the dreams of billions of Indian fans after beating the Men in Blue comprehensively by 6 wickets in the final of ICC World Cup 2023 played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

There was a pin-drop silence on the ground when Australia hit the winning runs as people were not able to digest that heartbreaking loss after Rohit Sharma and Co had such an outstanding campaign until that day. There were glum faces around the stadium and across India as well. 

There was still hope after Bumrah and Shami took early wickets which put Australia under pressure for that brief period. However, the game changed completely as Travis Head swung the pendulum in Australia’s favour with his blistering knock.

Travis Head was rewarded the Man of the Match award for his 137 runs on the important day.

Speaking on India’s performances during WC 2023, they had match-winners in every match where every player stood for them in crutch situations. From Kohli magical 765 runs to Shami’s 24 wickets, everyone contributed during India’s campaign where they won 10 consecutive matches. Captain Rohit Sharma too with his selfless approach provided India with excellent starts.
