Team India captain Rohit Sharma set a new record of smashing the most number of sixes in international cricket in their last match against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
Rohit achieved the milestone of hitting most number of sixes (556) in international cricket, breaking explosive West Indies batter Chris Gayle’s record of 553 sixes.
In a video released by BCCI on X, Rohit is seen sharing a special message to Gayle who earlier held the prestigious record .
“Universe boss is Universe Boss. Obviously I have taken a leaf out of his books,” Rohit is found saying in the video.
“Over the years we have seen him, such a six hitting machine he is, wherever he plays,” he added.

Notably, Rohit’s record of hitting most international sixes is achieved in 453 matches which is lesser as compared to Gayle’s 483 matches.
Apart from this record, Indian skipper has also equalled with Australia’s opening batsman, David Warner’s record of completing 1000 runs in least innings (19).
