A consortium led by a Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani on Saturday announced that they have submitted an offer to take full control of Manchester United.

However, Thani did not give any details on the amount proposed in the bid for the football club.

As per reports, British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe has also lodged a bid to buy the club. Thani confirmed his submission of a bid for 100 percent of Manchester United. Friday was the soft deadline for bidders.

The only other bidder to have officially declared an interest to buy the football club is Ratcliffe’s company Ineos. The company is interested to expand a sporting portfolio that already includes French side Nice and Swiss team FC Lausanne. The company has also a cycling team-- Ineos Grenadiers.

As per reports, the price of the club could reach a record $6 billion.

Manchester United’s current owners, the US-based Glazer family had announced in November that they were open to a sale or investment in the football club. Subsequently, it prompted talk of a bidding war between Qatari and Saudi Arabian interests.

A sale price of $6 billion for the football club would smash the record fee for a football club, set by Chelsea last year.

Manchester United are one of the most successful clubs in English football history. However, their performance graph has gone down. The club has not won the Premier League since 2013.
