Australia finished off 2023 on a memorable note with a resounding 79-run victory over Pakistan in Melbourne in the second Test of the three-match series. Pat Cummins led from the front with his 10-wicket haul in a match.

After the defeat, Pakistan dropped to fifth place in the World Test Championship points table. As Pakistan look forward to avoiding a clean sweep in the next match in Sydney, the team director opened up on the game and said they ‘played better’ than Australia.

After the match, Pakistan team director Mohammad Hafeez declared that Pakistan were better.

“We played better cricket as a team. I’m proud of that. The way the team had the courage to attack this game in the best possible way. If I sum up the game, the Pakistan team played better than the other team in general. Our batting intent was better and while bowling, we were hitting the right areas,” Hafeez said.

“Yes, we made some mistakes that cost us the game but as a team, I believe that there were a lot of positives, enough to win the game but unfortunately, at the end, we didn’t win the game,” he added.

Hafeez remarks left Australia skipper Pat Cummins in splits who said that at the end of the day it was who won the match that mattered.

“Maybe, they played well, but glad we got the win. Doesn’t really matter, does it? If they were the better team. It matters who wins at the end,” Cummins stated.

Video of Hafeez’s remarks has now gone viral with social media users brutally trolling the Pakistani veteran.

“All these teams are better on paper, feel like they won and were the better team and Australia do what they do best, get the wins lol,” a user commented.

Another user wrote, “Not only the match, Pat Cummins also won the press conference. Congratulations Australia 👍”
