Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday appointed star all-rounder Hardik Pandya as their captain in place of veteran batsman Rohit Sharma ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. However, the decision has not gone down well with several fans.

Following the decision, Mumbai Indians have lost tremendous amount of followers on X (earlier known as Twitter) and Instagram as well. As per reports, MI lost around 400,000 followers on X after an hour of the announcement.

The most successful franchise in IPL has lost more than five lakh followers since yesterday. They have lost around 600k followers on Instagram within 24 hours of the decision.

Fans over various social media platforms didn’t take the news well as they feel it was a bit unfair to Rohit, who won five trophies with the Mumbai Indians.

Rohit was one of the most successful captains in the history of the cash-rich league with five trophies with MI. As a player, Rohit won six titles with one of them coming with Deccan Chargers.

On the other hand, Hardik returned to his former team MI following a sensational trade move from Gujarat Titans (GT). The star all-rounder was the captain of GT for two years. Under his captaincy, GT won the title in 2022.
