Promising batsman Shubman Gill hit a brilliant hundred against Australia on day three of the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.

In the process, Gill made his case stronger than ever to replace former vice-captain and out of form KL Rahul. Gill scored 128 off 235 balls after getting LBW by off-spinner Nathan Lyon. On a batting favourable pitch, Gill made the most of the opportunity by scoring a hundred to cement his place in the playing eleven for India.

On the other hand, Rahul was clearly struggling with his form despite getting backing from skipper Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid.

Social media could not keep calm after Gill became the youngest Indian to score a hundred against Australia in Test cricket. It was Gill’s second Test hundred for India.

Reacting to the development a fan wrote, “Youngest Indian opener to hit a Test century against Australia: KL Rahul - 22y and 263d, Shubman Gill-23y and 182d, VVS Laxman - 25y and 62d.”

“ONCE HARSHA BHOGLE SAID – If you are kl Rahul you must think life is a roller coaster ride...one year back everyone looked at him as future captain and now he is not even in Playing 11,” tweeted another fan.

“BREAKING NEWS : @ShubmanGill just destroyed and ended @klrahul’s career. Congratulations on your hundred bro,” a third user commented.
