Despite his continuous dismal shows in ODIs, India’s Mr 360 degree batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been selected in the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup.

However, former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody feels that Suryakumar is extremely lucky to be in the squad. As per Moody, he would have rather gone for a young star like Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Men in Blue’s squad for the mega event.

“The player that I think is lucky to be in the Indian side is Suryakumar Yadav. I know that he is a player that we all love to watch. However, he is yet to really master the 50-over game. I think he has played over 20 matches now and at a very modest return,” said the former Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach.

“Moreover, there are better options available. I would have much rather seen a younger player like Yashasvi Jaiswal in that side. Or take that position, and play a wrist spinner,” said Moody.

Notably, SKY (as Suryakumar is popularly known) has played 26 ODIs and scored just 511 at an average of 24.33 and strike rate of 101.38. He has just two half centuries to his name in the 50 over format so far.
