Former India batter Aakash Chopra, known for making controversial statements, has once again made some shocking claims regarding Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni.
A day after saying that India’s run machine Virat Kohli would go for Rs 42 crore, he stated that Captain Cool would go unsold if he came to the IPL auction. While it is yet to be ascertained if MS Dhoni will continue to be the captain of CSK this season too, Aakash Chopra’s statement has angered his fans.
Dhoni has been leading CSK and won 5 IPL trophies, equaling Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma. Lovingly called Mahi and Captain Cool, Dhoni is yet to respond to Aakash’s statement.
On the other hand, Aakash Chopra added that Virat Kohli and Bumrah deserved a lot more if Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins could fetch more than Rs 20 crore.
“Who is the world’s best bowler? Who is the IPL’s best bowler? His name is Jasprit Bumrah. He gets Rs 12 crore and Starc almost Rs 25 crore. That’s wrong. I don’t grudge anybody’s money. I wish everyone gets paid a lot but how is this fair?” the ex-India opener said in a YouTube video.
“If this auction market decides that Starc’s price is Rs 25 crore, then it will also decide that Kohli should be worth Rs 42 crore, or Bumrah Rs 35 crore. If this isn’t happening, there is a fault,” he further stated.
He also claimed that Mumbai Indians would claim the IPL 2024 title. However, he maintained that their only stumbling block is the team’s atmosphere due to the sudden change in captaincy from Rohit Sharma to Hardik Pandya.
