Bhubaneswar: A day after a youth was shot dead on Saturday evening in Pattamundai, local police started probing the case on Sunday. After primary level of investigation, police suspect the death of the youth—Sanjay Swain—to be the result of business rivalry as the decease was a contractor.

“We have initiated a probe into yesterday’s murder case. We are investigating all aspects of the case. Meanwhile, we have conducted raids at suspected places and some more places would be raided as well to nab the culprit,” Pattamundai IIC Rashmi Ranjan Sahu said.

“We suspect conflict in business as the reason behind Sanjay’s murder,” Sanjay’s brother Sashikanta Swain said.

Earlier on Saturday evening, Sanjay was shot at near Pattamundai bypass.

As per an eyewitness, two to three motorcycle-borne armed miscreants opened fire at him while he was talking to some of his friends near a photo studio.

“2-3 motorcycle-borne miscreants fired at him from behind and fled the scene instantly,” eyewitness Dilip Sethi said.

Following the incident, Sanjay was immediately rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical state.
