Taking the protests a notch higher, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be organising a congregation of intellectuals in Bhubaneswar on Thursday in order to spread their agitations seeking justice for slain Kalahandi school teacher Mamita Meher and ouster of MoS (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra.

The BJP has invited intellectuals from almost all walks of the society including doctors, lawyers, journalists, academicians, writers and former police officers to the gathering.

Speaking on the event, BJP General Secretary, Golak Mohapatra said, “We have invited the intellectuals in Bhubaneswar today to explain them the Mamita murder case in detail. We will justify our demand for the removal of Minister of State (Home), Captain Dibya Shankar Mishra’s from his position.”

Meanwhile, the Opposition party continued the protests on Thursday. BJP leaders took to streets in Bargarh and attempted to gherao the SP’s office. Many BJP leaders, including the president of State BJP Yuva Morcha, Irasish Acharya, were detained by the Police after a scuffle during protest march.

“Dibya Shankar Mishra is directly involved in the murder of Mamita Meher. We therefore, demand his resignation as soon as possible. The Police cannot suppress our voice with threats of arrest. The BJP Yuva Morcha will intensify its stir in the coming days,” said Acharya.

Recently, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Odisha State unit in-charge D Purandeswari had accused the State government of shielding criminals.

“Any civilised society can’t accept the barbaric way in which Mamita was murdered. However, instead of taking strong actions against the culprits, the Odisha government is trying its best to shield the criminals,” said Purandeswari during a press conference at Bargarh on Wednesday.
