The BJP on Wednesday accused the ruling BJD of hijacking several projects in Kendrapara set up with the MPLAD funds by former parliamentarian and BJP National Vice-President Baijayant Panda.

As per the accusation by the saffron party, though the level of the groundwater has declined to a great extent in Kendrapara and the people are facing an acute drinking water crisis, the district administration has turned a blind eye to their ordeal.

“Around 30 huge water tanks were constructed in the constituency with the MPLAD funds of Panda. However, the tanks have become defunct due to the indifferent attitude of the ruling dispensation. Instead of repairing the tanks to expedite drinking water supply in the constituency, the district administration is trying to take political advantage,” said Kendrapara district BJP president Kishore Panda.

“The district administration has applied a fresh coat of paint on those tanks on the pretext of repairing and trying to project that these projects have been built under Buxi Jagabandhu Assured Water Supply to Habitations (BASUDHA) scheme of the State government,” said Kishore.

The saffron leader further alleged that several other projects like Jilla Sanskruti Bhawan in the city and 30 mini stadiums at several parts of the district are in the doldrums due to the apathetic attitude of the district administration.

“Jilla Sanskruti Bhawan was constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore with the MPLAD fund. Similarly, the stadiums were built with the MPLAD fund for grooming and nurturing sportspersons in the grassroots. However, these projects are in tatters as the State government lacks vision and the district administration has become a puppet in its hand,” said Kishore.

“The administration should move beyond narrow politics and work for the development of the people,” he said.
