Mumbai: Attacking the Congress over poor governance, BJP president Nitin Gadkari today said that people have lost faith in the government at the Centre and they are looking at BJP with expectations.

Addressing an executive meeting of the party here today, he said "There are issues like poverty, corruption, price rise. Who will tackle these issues ? The country looks at us with expectation. If any party has the capability to give good governance, that party is BJP,".

Referring to corruption cases, he said that "several ministers have been sent to jail. And some more ministers will go to jail. The country is going downhill." Talking about the economy, he said that the performance of the government on this score is `worst`. "While we were hoping that the GDP growth will go up to 12 per cent, it has gone down below 7 per cent. Foreign Direct Investment has dried up," the BJP chief stated.

Criticising the government over its food-grain policy, he said that food-grain to the tune of Rs 58,000 crore is rotting in the godowns. But the government told the Supreme Court that it would let the food-grains rot but would not give it free of cost to poor people.

A day-long meeting of the party was organised to chalk out plans for the ensuing zilla parishad and municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra. Senior leaders like Gopinath Munde, former union minister Ram Naik and Venkaiah Naidu addressed the party workers.

Meanwhile, indicating that Dhananjay Munde, nephew of senior leader Gopinath Munde who revolted recently in the local elections may face disciplinary action, Maharashtra BJP president Sudhir Mungantiwar said that those who violated whip cannot continue in the party. "Disciplinary Committee of the party is enquiring into the matter. The report will come to me within 8-days. If he is found guilty, action will be taken against him", Mungantiwar said.
