Odisha's Titilagarh sizzles as mercury soars to 46 degrees Celsius

Most parts of Odisha sizzled in high temperatures on Wednesday as Titilagarh in Bolangir became the hottest city with the mercury touching 46 degrees Celsius at 2.30 pm on Wednesday. 

Titilagarh was followed by Jharsuguda at 45.6 degrees Celsius.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sambalpur recorded 45.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Hirakud at 44.8 degrees Celsius.

Rourkela witnessed 43.6 degrees Celsius while Keonjhar recorded 41.2 degrees Celsius and Bhubaneswar at 39.8 degrees Celsius.
Severe sultry conditions prevailed in Bhubaneswar as the city reported the humidity level at 60. 

Shiv Meher, a resident of Sambalpur, said, ”Life has been miserable due to severe heatwave conditions. A little rains can bring relief for the people.” 

However, the day temperatures in some parts of the state may further rise in the next 48 hours.  

Director of IMD Bhubaneswar Manorama Mohanty predicted heatwave conditions in Odisha in the next 48 hours.

She informed, "During the next 48 hours, heatwave to severe heatwave is likely to prevail in the districts of Odisha like Sonepur, Boudh and Jharsuguda." 

Heatwave conditions are also very likely to prevail in Angul and Sundargarh on May 30. During June 1 and June 2, light to moderate rains are very likely to be experienced along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, she added.
