Odisha continues to boil under the prevailing severe heat wave conditions. Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, has issued Red Warning for severe heat wave conditions in nine districts of the State. These districts are- Khordha, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Angul and Cuttack.
Meanwhile, IMD has issued Orange Warning for heat wave conditions to districts like Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri. Yellow Warning has been issued to three districts - Koraput, Bargarh and Puri.
“Several parts of Odisha will experience severe heat wave conditions today. The condition is likely to prevail till May 1. Day temperature may likely to reduce a little bit from May 2,” said Manorama Mohanty, Director of Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.
As many as four cities in Odisha witnessed maximum temperature of more than 44 degree Celsius on Monday. Baripada was the hottest place in the State with maximum temperature of 44.8 degree Celsius. It was followed by Angul and Boudh with 44.3 degree Celsius and 44.1 degree Celsius respectively. Talcher experienced maximum temperature of 44 degree Celsius within the period.
As many as 32 cities across the State witnessed maximum temperature over 40 degree Celsius on Monday. While Titlagarh witnessed 43.5 degree Celsius, Dhenkanal experienced 43.3 degree Celsius. Bhawanipatna and Nayagarh recorded 43 degree Celsius each.
As per State Health Department sources, as many as two persons have died so far due to sunstroke in Odisha.
