Irked by frequent power cuts and low voltage problems in their area, villagers of Harirajpur under Banki block in Cuttack district staged a road blockade along the Banki-Cuttack main road on Thursday.

Hundreds of irate villagers burnt tyres, shouted slogans against the administration and staged a sit-in on the main road. Vehicular movement came to a standstill for hours due to the agitation. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road due to the road blockade.

As per reports, Harirajpur villagers were irritated following frequent power cuts and low voltage problems in their area despite the prevailing heat wave condition.

Though the villagers complained to the Energy Department about their problems several times, the employees of the concerned department didn’t pay any heed to their ordeal. Without having any alternative, the villagers were forced to stage the road blockade.

However, they eventually withdrew the protest following a discussion with the police and concerned officials.

The officials of the Energy Department admitted that the power cuts were occurring due to some technical problems. They assured the villagers that it will be sorted out soon.
