The Odisha Transport Department is going to undertake a week-long special drive to check buses and other light vehicles engaged in transporting school students in the State. The special drive will be taken up from tomorrow (April 20) and continue till April 27 (except Sunday). 

The Transport Commissioner has issued a circular to all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) in this regard.

As per the circular, during checking, challans will be issued against vehicles plying without a valid certificate of fitness, permit, insurance, PUC certificate and tax.

Action will be taken against vehicles carrying excess students than capacity, driving without driving license and violating other provisions of the law, the circular added.

Emphasis will be given on the safe transport of school students during checking, the circular further added.

“The RTOs have been asked to submit a compliance report of the special drive in the prescribed proforma on April 28,” read the letter issued by the Transport Commissioner.
