Security forces have recovered huge quantity of explosives during a combing operation in the Swabhiman Anchal (Cut-off region) of Malkangiri district on Friday.

As per initial reports, four tiffin bombs and other pharmaceutical drugs were recovered from the Maoist dump near Maribeda forest area. All the articles and explosives were hid inside a drum and abandoned at an isolated place by the red rebels.

The explosive dump was detected by the personnel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF). Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Nitesh Wadhwan said four tiffin bombs and 20 web belts and huge quantities of medicines have been found. It is suspected that the Maoists fled the area, leaving behind the explosives, due to the combing operation, he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that it is the third seizure of items belonging to Maoists from the area in the past one month. On December 25, 2021 a joint team of SOG and DVF personnel had unearthed a Maoist dump and recovered hand grenade, generator set and other raw materials used for making IEDs and other explosive devices in Malkangiri district.

The Maoist dump was busted near Maribeda village in the district.

In October last year, the security forces had unearthed a Maoist dump and recovered huge quantity of explosives near the Koraput-Malkangiri border. The seized explosives included- slurry and emulsion explosives (18 pcs), gelatin (500 pcs), camera flash (3 pcs), wire (15 mts), splinters (1200gms) and other Naxal literature.
