Depressed over the suicide of his son, an elderly man ended his life by jumping before a moving train in Bolangir district of Odisha.

Surendra Bag from Belnahali village under Puintala block died after jumping in front of a train at Jamasara level crossing on Tuesday.

A day earlier, Surendra’s son had killed himself in a similar fashion by jumping before a train. The exact reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained.

However, following the death of the father and son, their last rites were performed immediately before the arrival of railway police.

Separate investigations into both the suicide incidents are underway.

In another contrasting incident, a man hacked his son to death in an inebriated condition at Anantpichhula village under Barkot police station in Deogarh district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Golabadan Patra.

As per reports, the accused Muchi Patra lost his cool following a heated argument with Golabadan and attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon. Golabadan sustained serious injuries in the attack and subsequently succumbed to it.

After committing the crime, Muchi surrendered at Barkot police station. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
