At a time when a lot of stress is being given on infrastructural development, the Indian Railways added another feature in its cap by saving a whopping Rs 111 crore through its green initiatives and tapping renewabale energy.

As per official sources, the Indian Railways generated around 124 million units from solar energy and 163 million units from wind energy in the financial year 2021-22.

In a tweet, the Indian Railways announced to have saved approximately Rs 111 crore, including Rs 56.54 from solar and Rs 54.45 crore from wind energy.

It is pertinent to mention here that already massive steps have been taken towards converting the Indian Railways into ‘Green Railways’.

As part of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, the Indian Railways has completed 100% installation of Bio-toilets.

Already, 79,269 coaches have been fitted with Bio-toilets in 2021-22. Result, 2,74,000 ltr/day excreta on tracks avoided and thereby ensuring ‘Zero Discharge of Waste’ on tracks.
