Rourkela: A hardcore Maoist was arrested and a landmine weighing about 15 kg alongwith wires were seized from Sundergarh district, police said on Wednesday.

SP Himanhsu Lal told reporters the arrested Maoist identified as Pandu Panki Ray (22) and his three accomplices were planting landmine in Kapura forest road to prevent police operation groups to proceed to the area.

While Pondu was caught by security personnel, three others disappeared into the dense forest on Tuesday night.

Pondu is a native of Nuagaon Purantoly under Saraikela police limit in West Singhbhum district of neighbouring Jharkhand.

During interrogation Pandu has confessed his involvement in Maoist activities in K Balang police limit from where police seized 9 landmines, one clamour mine on December 13, 2009.

Pandu has also confessed his involvement in the killing of Koida police station`s sub-inspector Ajit Bardhan. Pandu was booked under several sections of IPC including explosive act and produced before a local court, which remanded him to jail custody.
