Berhampur: A man with alleged links with Maoists and wanted in connection with the murder of a former sarapanch in Baragada area in Ganjam district was arrested on Friday.

Sudarshan Mandal alias Shankarshan, suspected to have links with Maoists, including top leader Sabyasachi Panda, was allegedly involved in the murder of Dillip Swain, former sarapanch of Balaramapur gram panchayat on June 22 last year in association with the rebels, the police said.

"During interrogation Mandal confessed to the crime," Superintendent of Police (Ganjam) Rajesh Pandit said at Chhatrapur.

Since he was linked with Maoists, police suspected he might be involved in some other Maoist-related crimes in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts.

"We are investigating his links with other Maoist related crimes in these districts," police said.

Mandal disclosed some of the hideouts of ultras in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts.
