Boudh: A 19-year-old girl was thrown into the swollen Mahanadi river in Boudh district after being allegedly raped by her paramour, but she was able to save herself, police said here on Monday.

The victim from Cuttack reached Rairakhol by train on Sunday from where a jeep had been arranged by Ranjit Bagh, a driver from Tutusinga, her alleged paramour, inspector-in-charge of Boudh, Akshya Mishra said.

The girl was allegedly raped in the jeep by Bagh, who then took her to the Boudh-Kiakata river bridge and threw her into the flooded river with the help of two others, Mishra said.

After battling for survival for about two hours, the girl managed to reach the river`s bank at Marzadkud and was rescued by villagers. Bagh and a relative Judhistira Bisi have been arrested and the hunt is on for the third person, Mishra added.
