Bhubaneswar: In a stinking case of human trafficking, a husband has sold his wife to flesh traders in Jhansi, Madhya Pradesh, official sources informed on Tuesday. However, the deserted wife has managed to escape the clutches of the traffickers and is on her way back to the state.

According to reports, one Ranjan Jena hailing from Baghamari area under Khurda district loved a woman and had tied the nuptial knot with her on July 31, 2009 in Amophoi. Later, Jena had also brought his wife with him to Jhansi on the pretext of earning their bread and butter together.

But, the woman’s world fell apart when the once die hard lover traded his wife to traffickers in Jhansi. The betrayer husband, who sold his beloved wife at a cost of Rs 40,000, evaded the place instantly. However, the woman, daring enough, managed to break away from the traffickers and now she is on her way back to the state.

Following the incident, the mother and brother of the woman have registered a complaint with State Women Commission after they were informed about the incident by the woman herself.

Meanwhile, State Women Commission Chairman Jyoti Panigrahi has said that the whole incident would be investigated.
