Bloating and acidity are common problems that usually trigger when you eat spicy or fried foods. However, many times even simple food items can cause such symptoms and then you end up wondering what is causing them.
Nowadays, most of the produce is sprayed with pesticides and preservatives for bulk production and preservation. That is the reason even simple vegetables and fruits have elevated levels of chemicals in them that trigger bloating and acidity symptoms.
However, there are a few food items that have certain naturally occurring ingredients in them causing acidity and bloating.
Milk
Lactose intolerance is the common cause of acidity and bloating. Reports indicate that around 70 percent of Indians have lactose intolerance, a condition in which the intestine is unable to digest lactose.
In many people, the lactase enzyme required for breaking down and digesting lactose is quite less and thus leads to bloating and acidity. So, if you face such symptoms, you must try to identify whether you are lactose intolerant or not, and if yes should stop consuming milk.
Beans
The fiber in beans strengthens the digestive power of the body. However, beans also contain a type of carbohydrate-alpha-galactosidase. When it enters the stomach, beans get fermented due to the presence of bacteria leading to the production of a lot of gas in the stomach causing bloating and acidity.
Lentils
Lentils are a major source of proteins for vegetarians. They are rich in carbohydrates, fibers, and minerals. However, the excessive fiber present in lentils leads to digestion problems in some people causing bloating and acidity.
Soaking beans and lentils overnight and then eating them reduce the possibility of having a bloated stomach.
Cauliflower
Vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower create a lot of gas inside the intestine and hence they are not good for people with weak digestive systems.
So, if you are feeling acidity or bloating symptoms due to cauliflower, try to avoid eating it or limit your portion size.
Soft drinks
It is a common belief that drinking soft drinks reduce the probability of acidity. But the opposite is true in this case because carbonated drinks have soda that further increases the symptoms of acidity and bloating. These drinks also have a lot of carbon dioxide and cause gases.
Mushrooms
Even though mushrooms are rich in a lot of nutrients, in some people they can cause symptoms of acidity and bloating. Hence, such people must avoid mushrooms.
