India is the most populated country in the world. And that is one reason despite massive progress and enhancement in its infrastructure, the benefits fail to reach millions of people in the country.
The country has been trying for the last many decades to control its population growth but due to illiteracy and cultural divisions, to date, we have not been able to get the results.
Women Empowerment is the Key
Education makes everyone aware of the pros and cons of everything that happens around them. In India, one of the major reasons why the population has escalated in such a huge way is because women in rural areas or those who are illiterate are not independent. Importantly, they are simply not aware of the use of contraceptives that are safe to use and can help keep away unwanted pregnancies.
In the absence of such awareness, the woman keeps on getting pregnant and delivering multiple children in their lifetime. Sadly, in the majority of cases, these people are very poor and do not have access to good education or health facilities. In many households, women do not have any say in all these matters even if she does not want the child.
It is only possible if the woman is financially independent, and is aware of her rights. That is how she will get the courage to say no and that is how she will be aware of different types of measures used to avoid unwanted pregnancies.
Promoting Family Planning
In most of the government health centers contraceptives are freely available. Even lady doctors are appointed who give free advice and treatment to women in rural areas. But it seems, it is not enough. More efforts are required to promote family planning so that the population explosion that the country is facing can be brought under control.
