Thousands of people around the world are homeless with no roof to live under. Many of them sleep on the pavements during the night whereas a few lucky ones get shelter in some inhabited, barren, and ruined buildings. To ensure that the humanity who has the luxury of having a home is aware of the plight of those who are homeless, every year World Homeless Day is celebrated on October 10.

It is an opportunity for those fortunate to have a family and a shelter to contribute in their own ways so that the homeless somehow manage to find shelter for themselves. Several NGOs and charity institutions have been working relentlessly to ensure that no one goes without food and shelter but even then you will find people making underpasses, big pipes, and under bridges their homes as they cannot afford to buy or rent a proper house.

It is not possible for everyone to donate a home or a place to live. But it is always possible to contribute a small amount to the charity institutions that pick up such homeless people from the road and give them shelter. If you are really touched by the plight of these homeless people you can also pool in some money with the help of your friends and make a bigger contribution like paying for the building of extra rooms or any facilities that are required for a decent living.

Many people offer food and clothes to the homeless living in bunkers. But that does not solve their problem. You can give food to them one day or a couple of days but what they need is a source of income and a stable house so that they can live like normal people do. That is why it is important to offer them jobs as on their skills or even arrange training so that these people can start earning on their own and find at least a room on rent to start their life in a proper way.
