25 Years Of Kargil Vijay Diwas: Remembering India’s War Heroes
In May 1999, the Pakistani army secretly infiltrated Kargil'sDrass and Batalik sectors to control NH 1A movements. The National Highway 1A, currently known as NH 44, is situated in North India and connects the Kashmir valley to Jammu and the rest of India. The infiltrators positioned themselves in key locations that gave them a strategic advantage during the start of the conflict. The Indian army was alarmed. After collecting data from local shepherds, the Army was able to ascertain the points of intrusion and launched "Operation Vijay". This operation lasted for three long months and India fought one of the most intense battles during the Kargil War, in one of the most challenging terrains in the world.Several soldiers exhibited heroism during the Kargil War.
