2003 marked the comeback of Shah Rukh Khan after a gap of 4 years in action avatar. Moreover, the year also witnessed the most anticipated onscreen pairing of SRK and Salman aka Karan Arjun. While in Pathaan, Salman’s extended cameo as Tiger was lauded by movie lovers, SRK’s cameo in Salman’s Tiger 3 was regarded as the best part of the movie.

Watching SRK and Sallu together in action in two movies was indeed a grand moment for movie lovers. Moreover, the movies performed well at the box office. Though Pathaan featured Deepika Padukone and John Abraham apart from SRK and Tiger 3 starred Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi along with Salman, the screen presence and action scenes of the Khans-duo were highly lauded.

Undeniably, both the movies were packed with some high-octane action scenes and a lot of VFX work involved in it. However, recently, the head of Yash Raj Films (YRF) VFX division revealed the planning behind the action sequences.

During an interview with Variety, Sherry Bharda, the head of yFX (CFX division of YRF) opened up that the action sequences in both movies were extensively planned. She further added that the action sequences couldn’t be linearly and the production designer, DoP, and the action director need to be interactive and inclusive. She also added that Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan were very savvy and hands-on in the process of planning the action sequences.

Bhadra was quoted as saying, “Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, they are very savvy and hands-on in this process. When the director shows them the pre-visuals that we have done, which is almost like a small simplified version of the actual edit that they will see eventually, they have their ideas, they have their thoughts, and they know what they’re supposed to do on the set. ”

Further, she added, “They will ask VFX questions, both at the shoot and earlier on about what their role is and how they are supposed to achieve a certain shot so that VFX is able to pick it up later on.”

Bharda also said that the action scenes of SRK and Salman together in Tiger 3 had to be bigger than Pathaan as the audience had already appreciated their action sequence in Pathaan. As they had a limited time, they used extensive 3D visualisation.
