Blockbuster movie Deewana released in 1992 and the Bollywood got its ‘King’ in the form of Shah Rukh Khan. A star like none, Unparalleled! SRK made his debut as the parallel lead with Divya Bharti and Rishi Kapoor.

The movie was a smash hit with its music topping the charts even today. However, not many know that SRK was not the first choice for the film. The role was first offered to Gadar 2 star Sunny Deol, according to several media reports.

However, the action star rejected the role for some reason and the film eventually went to Armaan Kohli before Shah Rukh Khan came on board for the film. Interestingly, many are unaware of the fact that the producer of Deewana, Guddu Dhanoa who himself is a noted director is the cousin of the legendary Dharmendra.

It was Sunny Deol’s father Dharmendra and director Shekhar Kapur who suggested SRK’s name to Guddu Dhanoa after watching his TV shows Fauji and Circus and the rest is history as they say.

Deewana went on to become a huge blockbuster making SRK a superstar from his debut.

Not only this, SRK’s other movies like Rakesh Roshan’s Koyla and Trimurti were also initially offered to Sunny Deol. However, the star rejected the roles that eventually landed in favour of King Khan.

Apparently, the two stars worked together for the first time in another blockbuster movie ‘Darr’. There are reports that Sunny Deol was not too happy with the film director Yash Chopra for giving more screen time to SRK.

However, the two stars have always maintained dignity and mutual respect for each other.

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 is all set to break the records of SRK’s Pathaan. The movie has breached the Rs 300 crore mark in just 8 days making it an all-time blockbuster.

On the other hand, SRK is gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie Jawan directed by Tamil director Atlee.
