Gobinda Sahu, the prime accused in the sensational murder of Kalahandi school teacher Mamita Meher, has been sent to jail on Monday after his five-day remand period ended on Sunday.

Sahu was produced at Bangomunda SDJM Court at 7 am on Monday following which he was sent to Kantabanji Jail after his bail plea was rejected by the court.

Reports said, Sahu was kept at Reserve Police yesterday night and taken inside the court premises from the emergency gate at the backside. Police officials said keeping in view the security reasons, Sahu was taken to the court from the back gate.

Earlier on Wednesday, Bolangir Police had produced Sahu before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Bangomunda which allowed the cops to take Sahu on remand for five days .

During the remand, police conducted his marathon interrogation and asked him about the details of the murder and regarding the involvement of others in the crime.

Sahu divulged out all the details on how did he kill Mamita and take her to the Mahaling stadium. Cops also took Sahu to the crime spot where he recreated the scene . Sahu reportedly demonstrated how he burnt the body of the deceased and buried her in the 10-feet-deep pit at the stadium.

On October 8, Sahu received Mamita at Chandotara. Sahu then drove the deceased lady teacher in his car for shopping in Bhawanipatna. Sahu claimed both then went to the Manikeswari shrine and on the way back, he throttled her to death on the back seat of the car.

Post her death, as per the pre-plan, Sahu took Mamita’s dead body to the under-construction Mahaling Stadium near the Sunshine Model School premises. He later burned Mamita’s body and buried it in the pit.
