The Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch arrested Mohammad Raja, a notorious drugs peddler who was wanted in connection with a major brown sugar haul in Nayagarh district last month. This is the second arrest made by the STF in the past 48 hours in the Nayagarh drugs seizure case.

On February 20, the STF had arrested Jatni resident Siba Prasad Das, the mastermind of the drug syndicate, following a raid at a hideout near Pahal square (On NH-16) in Khordha district. Brown sugar weighing 1227 gm worth over Rs 1 crore had been confiscated from the possession of the drugs peddler.

STF sources said that Mohammad (Md) Raja was traced following specific intelligence input about his location. It is pertinent to mention here that a major consignment of brown sugar was seized by the Special Task Force (STF) from a house located in Sinduria village under Nayagarh Town Police limits on January 25.

One peddler, identified as K Vickey Rao of Rajabazar area of Khordha, was arrested from the spot and brown sugar weighing 3.1 kg had been recovered from the spot.

Apart from brown sugar, Rs.65.32 lakh cash, three 7mm high-quality pistols, 43 live rounds and a cash counting machine was recovered during the raid. It was the biggest narcotics seizure made by the STF so far in 2022. It was also for the first time that such a big haul of narcotics had been made from Nayagarh district.
