Even as the long tail of the second wave lingers on in the State, especially in Bhubaneswar, Odisha government’s top health official today discounted the chances of third wave hitting the State.

“A surge was expected during the Durga Puja. But cases didn’t count much as was projected. However, he hastened to add that we have to wait for 10 more days to get a clear picture,” said Director Health Services Bijay Mohapatra.
“The country’s top virologists also see a remote chance of the third wave hitting the nation. But we can’t be complacent,” he emphasised.

Odisha Scenario

“The State is witnessing around 500 cases everyday, which cannot be called an alarming number. Of the total count, over 200 cases are from Khordha district alone. People of the district need to remain careful and should strictly adhere to all the Covid-19 norms to give a check to the pandemic,” he added.

In the last 24 hours, Odisha registered 524 new positive cases, including 82 cases in the below 18 years age group.

Khordha reported the highest of 254 cases followed by Cuttack (66). The total number of cases since the start of pandemic mounted to 10,37, 056. The active cases in the State as on today are 4,856. 

Moreover, during the last 24-hrs, State had recorded two Covid deaths.  With this, the total death toll in the State touched 8,298. 

So far, 10, 23, 849 patients have recovered from the disease.
