Puri: A local court has sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for ten years in connection with the sensational gangrape of a woman on the beach along Puri-Konark Marine Drive in 2007.
District and sessions Judge Dukhishyam Chaulia convicting Prakash Pradhan also fined him Rs 5,000.
The woman was traveling in a bus along with a relative when five convicts waylaid the bus on the deserted road, dragged her out and gangraped her on the beach on November 3, 2007.
Police had arrested four other accused - Gouranga Pradhan, Santosh, Ramakanta and Debananda Parida on November 5, 2007 and the trial into the gangrape had begun on February 5, 2008.
The court had convicted them on October 8, 2009.
Pradhan`s trial was held separately as he was absconding after the crime and surrendered to the police on December 17,2009. The verdict on him was given on Saturday.
