Tesla's Indian subsidiary, Tesla India Motor & Energy Pvt Ltd, has leased an office space in Pune. It will be the EV maker's first office in India.

As per a report by the Hindustan Times, Tesla’s Indian subsidiary has entered into a five-year lease agreement with Tablespace Technologies Pvt Ltd for 5580 square feet of office space at Panchsheel Business Park, Viman Nagar in Pune.

The same report stated Tesla will pay a monthly rent of Rs 11.65 lakh along with a security deposit of Rs 34.95 lakh to lease the space for a period of five years. The lock-in period is 36 months and the rent commencement date is October 1, 2023.

The Panchsheel Business Park is currently under construction and has a development size of 10,77,181 square feet which is located around 3kms from the Pune international airport.

Tesla has had several discussions with the Indian government. During a recent meeting with officials, the company expressed interest to bring its own supply chain ecosystem to the country. Reports suggest that the government wants EV makers to adopt Apple's strategy and find local partners who can collaborate with Chinese suppliers.

After hearing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Make in India" pitch during his US visit in July, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced a change of plans, saying that his electric vehicle and battery company will now come to India as soon as it is humanly possible".
