New Delhi: A guard at an ATM kiosk and two others were arrested for stealing PIN numbers of Debit and Credit cards and making online purchases, police said here today. Police have recovered information of over 250 Debit and Credit cards from them.

"The accused used the card information to make online purchase of air, railway and movie tickets. They had also purchased tickets of the recent Sun Burn Festival held in Goa," DCP Crime Ashok Chand said. The arrest came on a complaint filed on January 6 that Rs 42,681 has been illegally withdrawn from an SBI Account. On enquiry, the complainant found that some unknown persons had used his debit card illegally.

During its probe, police came to know that a security guard deputed at the SBI ATM near a hotel in Paharganj had "helped" the complainant in withdrawing some money from the ATM machine about a month ago, Chand said. Based on this police arrested the ATM guard, named Mohinder Sharma, from near a cinema hall in Paharganj. "Sharma and his accomplice Ajit Singh were arrested and two slips with ATM card numbers along with the respective PIN numbers were recovered from their possession," police said.

During interrogation, Sharma told police that he used to steal card information under the pretext of helping people to withdraw money from the ATM machine. He then sold the details of the cards to Ajit. Ajit had contacts with travel agents and touts and at their instance, he used to purchase air, train and movie tickets online. One tout named Anil Mehra has also been arrested, Chand said.
