Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission on Thursday issued notices to top state officials, including the Chief Secretary, following reports of encephalitis deaths in parts of the state.

Justice Vishnu Sahay, member of the Commission, issued notices to Principal Secretary Medical Health, DG Medical Health, Chief Medical Superintendent, Medical College, Gorakhpur and Chief Medical Officers of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria and Mahrajganj besides the Chief Secretary asking them to apprise it by November 14 the measures taken to contain the spread of encephalitis and deaths taking place on account of it.

They should also ensure that by the said date more doctors and nurses are posted in various government hospitals of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Maharajganj, more beds are provided for patitents of encephalitis in hospitals of the said districts and unless it is inevitable only one patient be lodged on one bed, Sahay said.
