RPF Gets New Gear To Check Eve Teasing, Molestation In Trains

Bhubaneswar: As part of its ongoing initiative to upgrade security measures for the safety of train passengers, Indian Railways has come up with a special gear for the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel to put a check on rising incidents of chain-snatching, eve teasing, molestation and child trafficking.

From now on RPF personnel will use specially-designed body worn camera systems which can be helpful in preventing crimes on railway station premises as well as inside trains. The advanced equipment can continuously record activity on a real time basis.

As the equipment will be worn by RPF personnel, it will come handy to maintain surveillance in such areas which do not have CCTV coverage. Senior railway officials informed that the body-worn cameras also come with a special night vision mode.

The visuals captured by the cameras can be produced in court of law as evidence which can ensure that the criminals are prosecuted. The capabilities of RPF personnel will be greatly enhanced during raids and other enforcement drives to protect railway property.

“An anti-social will think twice before committing offence if such advance equipment is provided to all RPF personnel across all stations. This will certainly be helpful in prevention of crime against children and women passengers in trains,” said Swati, a passenger.

A senior railway official stated that the body-worn cameras is one of the best preventive measure against a number of crimes as an individual will certainly not indulge in any anti-social activity when he/she knows that they are continuously being monitored.
