Bangalore: A PIL was filed in Karnataka High Court on Monday seeking a direction to state home department to initiate legal action against Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa for allegedly violating rules of the Karnataka Jail Manual 1978.

The petitioner, advocate K N A Reddy, also sought directions to the Home Department to establish a well-equipped hospital in the jail premises so that the inmates are given better medical treatment and do not have to go outside the jail to seek such treatment. The petition comes in the wake of Sadananda Gowda and some of his cabinet colleagues visiting Yeddyurappa, arrested in connection with alleged land scams, in the jail.

Terming the petition as rather "vague", a Division bench, headed by acting Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen, directed the petitioner to seek some more details in the matter under the RTI Act, evidence and information from jail authorities. It also requested Additional Advocate General K M Nataraj to help the petitioner with details in case he sought assistance. The bench then adjourned the matter to ten days on Monday.
