Chennai: Vigilance officials today raided nine premises of senior DMK leader Duraimuguran on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income during his tenure as Minister for PWD, Law and Prisons from 2006 to 2009. Police said a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him on Wednesday as a prima facie case of cognisable offence was made out.

Searches were conducted at Vellore, Kanchipuram and Chennai district by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC), police said. Several former DMK ministers and senior party functionaries have been facing the heat from the Jayalalithaa government on charges of either land grabbing or amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.

Former DMK Ministers Veerapandi S Arumugam, K Ponmudy,K N Nehru, M R K Panneerselvam, T M Anbarasan, K P P Samy, former MLA B Ranganathan, sitting MLA J Anbazhagan and those close to Union Minister M K Azhagiri in Madurai are among those who have faced action.
