Bhubaneswar: All the 14 NCP MLAs in Meghalaya were likely to support P A Sangma in the coming Presidential elections, NCP leader and Leader of the Opposition in Meghalaya Assembly Conrad Sangma claimed on Tuesday.

Conard Sangma, who is also the son of P A Sangma indicated that all the 14 party MLAs are free to vote for the candidate of their choice in the Presidential elections as there is no whip on them.

"There is no question of defying party whip because there is no such whip on us," he told reporters here replying a question on whether he would vote for his father P A Sangma in the Presidential elections by defying the party line.

Conrad, who was here to garner support of BJD MLAs and MPs for his father P A Sangma, said "We are very much part of NCP and would continue in the party."

While NCP was the main opposition in Meghalaya, the Congress had been the ruling party, Cornad Sangma pointed out justifying their stand of supporting P A Sangma`s candidature for the Presidential elections.

Conrad reiterated that he was not defying any whip of the party by supporting a tribal and a Christian candidate who happens to be his father.

Stating that his father P A Sangma resigned from the NCP for the cause of tribals and Christians, Conrad said "We are also supporting that cause of P A Sangma as a tribal leader and as a Christian leader."
