"While on one hand pro-active measures by the police have brought down naxal incidents, on the other hand willing naxalites are being encouraged to return to the mainstream," Ahmed told the state assembly on the first day of the budget session.
As 18 of the state`s 24 districts were naxal affected, scattered reports of naxal incidents had been witnessed in the rest, he said. To make the police stronger, recruitment process was being made in a big way amid modernisation of the forces with latest weapons and security equipment.
Stating that India Reserve Battalion, comprising primitive tribals, had been set up, he said police lines were being constructed in the naxal-affected Giridih, Koderma, Latehar and Lohardaga.
Crime & Criminal Tracking Network System was being put in place to check crime, he said adding flying squads were set up to stop human trafficking in Khunti, Gumla, Simdega and Dumka disticts. .
Jharkhand had produced a record 50 lakh metric tonne rice this year, the governor said adding that the government had made arrangements to procure the grains from farmers. Stating that expansion of irrigation is the secret of agriculture growth, Ahmed listed out the state government`s efforts in improving this sector.
On education, he said the process of land acquision on Ranchi-Khunti road for a "Knowledge City" was in the final stage. The governor also gave a plethora of welfare schemes being taken up or completed by his government.
