New Delhi: Holding that the "biggest corruption" is within the country`s political system, Rahul Gandhi on Monday asked youth to enter politics and help snuff out the scourge.

"People talk about corruption. The biggest corruption is in our political system. If we don`t bring in change in the political system, we can`t fight corruption. The only way to change it is by bringing in new youths into it," Gandhi said addressing a national convention of elected office-bearers of Youth Congress called "Buniyad" here.

The convention also saw senior Congress leaders seeking a larger role for Gandhi to bail the party out in these "adverse circumstances" with Home Minister P Chidambaram saying that elders at some point of time must step back and pave the way for the young.

Party general secretary Chaudary Birender Singh felt it was only the youth leadership under Rahul which can see the party through in the prevailing adverse situation.

Gandhi told the 8000-odd gathering of the Youth Congress office bearers that they represented one crore members, who elected them and and it was their responsibility to fight the menace of corruption.

"Go and fight against corruption, go to the villages, hold their hands and try to understand their problems and bring in a change in this country," the Congress MP from Amethi said.

Expressing confidence that Youth Congress will bring about a change in the country in the coming years, he urged them to work unitedly to strengthen the system and help the Congress party in this task.
